US Business Leadership Network Annual Conference,
Minneapolis
The U. S. Business Leadership Network (USBLN) is having its
9th Annual National Conference, which will be held October
4-6, 2006 at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center hotel in
Minneapolis, MN. This year's annual conference is being hosted
by the Minnesota Business Leadership Network.
Over 400 attendees
are expected from BLN chapters across the country, as well
as leaders and professionals from corporations, small businesses,
colleges and universities, service providers, and the workforce
development community. These leaders and professionals recognize
the benefits of including people with disabilities in their
workforce and marketplace and view people with disabilities
as strategic business partners in today’s workplace.
Conference Highlights
This year’s conference has added a career fair for students
with disabilities. Minnesota is the kick-off site for the
American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) annual
National Mentoring Day. October 4th will begin with a nationally
broadcast, live news conference and the career fair.

Career Planning for College Students with Disabilities,
Washington DC
COSD and the University of Tennessee Disability Careers Office
(DCO) have been invited to present at George Washington University
at a full-day seminar designed for universities, particularly
career services and disability services personnel. The audience
is expected to be large and representing metro DC area schools
and beyond into other states. Sarah Helm will be presenting
for the DCO as a successful example of collaboration between
career services and disability services. COSD will be presenting
to further promote COSD Career Gateway to this audience. Other
presenters, who will be discussing internships include Sara
Mahoney representing the Washington Center, Betsy Kravitz representing
the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) and Rayna Aylward representing
the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation. Each will be inviting
one student as a further representative of their respective
programs.

Career Planning for College Students with Disabilities,
Manchester, NH
COSD and the University of Tennessee Disability Careers
Office (DCO) have been invited by Southern New Hampshire University
in Manchester to present three programs.
First, Sarah Helm, Coordinator of the DCO and I are invited
to present at the Manchester Area Human Resources Management
Breakfast Meeting. We will be discussing employment and college
graduates with disabilities with a number of area employers.
Second, we will return to the SNHU campus and conduct a program
with SNHU students about disclosure, self-advocacy and requesting
workplace accommodations.
Third, we will present an afternoon seminar designed for
universities, particularly career services and disability
services personnel. The audience is expected to be large and
representing New England schools. AHEAD in New England will
hold its Fall Meeting at SNHU and incorporate this presentation
into their agenda. Additionally, EACE will be invited to represent
the career services “side of the house.” Sarah
Helm will be presenting for the DCO as a successful example
of collaboration between career services and disability services.
COSD will be presenting to further promote COSD Career Gateway
to this audience.

NACE National Meeting and Exposition, New York
The NACE 2007 National Meeting will be held at the New York
Marriott Marquis in the heart of Times Square. This event is
a great opportunity for employers and Career Services professionals
to meet and share ideas. COSD has presented at NACE in the past
and will be involved with this event this year as well. In the
coming months, there will be details for this conference at
